Gaborone, Botswana (Capital Markets in Africa):- The BSE Equity Markets indices went into further lows in todays trading as the DCI main and local LASI indices as well as the DFSI recorded downward movements into the red zone today.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) fell by -56.00 points to close at 11,035.66 points down by -0.51 percent from its previous close of 11,092.11 points.
Likewise, the Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) lost by -0.53 points closing at 800.07 down -0.07 percent from its previous close of 800.60(LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning).
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) recorded no change after the days trading holding at 1569.35 points.
The Domestic financial Sector index (DFSI) which is composed of all domestic financial sector companies was also down -11.42 points to 1271.97 points, a -0.91 percent fall from its previous close of 1272.96 points.
The market capitalisation settled at BWP 422,513.27 at the end of the day’s session with the Domestic Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 52,319.39 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 370,201.88 million.
From a market activity perspective, the total daily volume settled at 6,511,710 shares traded which were exchanged from the 25,712 million Securities issued bringing the total turnover of those shares traded on the domestic and foreign main boards to BWP 27,701,178.81 million.
The market activity in terms of the securities traded volumes were lead by Choppies which recorded the highest volume figures of 16,378,694.00 followed by Letshego with 9,416,860.00 and Turnstar with 1,827,450.00.
Looking at the price movers’, there were 2 price gainers and 3 price loser on the Domestic main board BIHL and Primetime that recorded a price change to the green zone. BIHL was up 1 to 1436 and Primetime were up 1 to 288.
Moving towards the red zone were Choppies down 4 to close BWP 2850, Letlotle down -5 to settle at 545 and Letshego down -7 to close at 335.
